New York Bankruptcy Law Attorneys
At Genova & Malin, Attorneys at Law, we focus our entire practice on bankruptcy law.
Our attorneys allocate a majority of their time in Federal Bankruptcy Courts in Poughkeepsie and White Plains, or working to solve our clients' financial problems. Our offices are located in southern Dutchess County, New York.
The two principals of our firm, Thomas Genova and Andrea B. Malin, are highly experienced bankruptcy attorneys with more than 33 years of combined experience assisting clients in New York in dealing with financial distress.
Excellence in Bankruptcy Law
Thomas Genova serves as a court-appointed trustee at the Bankruptcy Court in Poughkeepsie. Read more about what a bankruptcy trustee does in What to Expect in Bankruptcy. Obviously, Mr. Genova does not serve as a trustee in cases in which our firm represents a client. But he is allowed to represent bankruptcy clients for cases in which he is not involved as a trustee. Both Mr. Genova and Ms. Malin have a detailed and thorough understanding of the Bankruptcy Code. Ms. Malin is a past president of the Mid-Hudson Bankruptcy Bar Association.
New York Bankruptcy Lawyers Serving a 5-County Area from White Plains to Albany, including Poughkeepsie, Newburg, Middletown, and Kingston
We help consumers who are swamped with debt-- and who don't have significant assets to protect-- to file for liquidation bankruptcy under Chapter 7 of the federal Bankruptcy Code, giving them a fresh financial start. We help consumers with significant assets that they would like to keep--such as a home--to file under Chapter 13 for a court supervised debt repayment plan. With a source of income and a manageable plan, our Chapter 13 clients can get back on their feet financially, generally within 3 to 5 years. Finally, we help financially troubled businesses to get breathing space from creditors through a Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization that can restore their viability and vitality.
Our law offices are centrally located in Wappingers Falls, New York, about three miles north of Interstate-84. We serve five-county area straddling the Hudson River Valley, including: Dutchess County, Westchester County, Orange County, Ulster County, and Sullivan County. We serve communities from White Plains to Albany, including Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Kingston, and Middletown. Most of our bankruptcy filings are in the federal Bankruptcy Court in Poughkeepsie, although we also initiate such filings in White Plains.
We are an established bankruptcy firm that knows how to help people or businesses in financial trouble. We couple our professionalism with a personal approach in helping our clients. Our attorneys and staff get to know our clients on a first-name basis. We listen to our clients to get a complete understanding of their financial situation and other relevant circumstances. We explore with them alternative approaches to dealing with financial distress, other than filing for bankruptcy. In the process, we strive to make sure than our clients' misconceptions about bankruptcy are dispelled and their fears are addressed so that they fully understand their options, before choosing a course of action.
If you are in financial distress -- and there are some definite warning signs that you may be heading toward a bankruptcy -- contact us at once, so that we can begin to put your financial house in order.
